Fresh Water Fishing
The Village Camps specializes in seasonal vacation rental cottages and guided fishing trips in northeastern Maine for landlocked salmon and smallmouth bass.

We're located on the shore of 16,070-acre East Grand Lake, one of Maine's premier lakes for landlocked salmon, lake trout, and smallmouth bass fishing and 2 miles from Spednic Lake, one of Maine's most protected and untouched lakes. Surface fishing by trolling streamer flies for salmon and lake trout starts immediately after Ice Out, around May 1. Salmon average 2-4 pounds, with some as large as 5-7 pounds. Fly fishing for Salmon in the upper reaches of the nearby St. Croix River is excellent. Anglers and campers at The Village Camps often hear the eerie cry of the loon, which arrive here in early spring to stake out their area of the lakes for nesting and breeding. We commonly see loons during our guided fishing trips.

Brook trout fishing with flies or spinners in remote streams and ponds of Maine produces memorable fishing.

Smallmouth bass, a hard-hitting and exciting game fish, are taken regularly beginning in late May and early June by fishing along the shores with artificial lures and light tackle. We have some of the best bass fishing Maine has to offer, and many anglers return annually for a fishing vacation.

During mid-summer, landlocked salmon are caught in deeper waters by trolling 4-6 colors down with lead core line, bright spoons and streamers, line tied bait, or downriggers. Smallmouth bass can be caught on the surface or in deeper water with artificials and live bait or, if you prefer, with fly fishing tackle. Other species like lake trout (togue), white perch, and pickerel are abundant and provide a good variety of fishing opportunities.

Fall fishing features surface trolling of streamer flies for landlocked salmon, and fly fishing action improves in the rivers as salmon begin their spawning migrations. Smallmouth bass in lakes begin feeding heavily as winter approaches.

It's hard to beat fishing with a veteran Maine guide. If you desire, your guide will prepare a hearty shore lunch to highlight your trip.

Boats, motors, and canoes are available on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis from The Village Camps. Boats are 14 to 16 feet in length, and motors are 8 horsepower. There is a minimal docking fee for guests who wish to bring their own boats. Fishing licenses are available at the Office.

Please call or email for information or reservations for a wonderful fishing vacation.
